American Patrol (score with midi playback)

Congrats to CHS Band for putting up the concert yesterday (now can someone send over the recording?) Too bad I can’t make it home this weekend, with 2 performances on both days to juggle.

It’s 2009, means it has been at least 15 years since my first An Evening Of Music (AEOM), which is CHS’s signature concert series over the years. AEOM is, especially to the alumni the few batches that graduate around the same time as me, an unforgettable event, with many hours not only putting the show together, but also going out to raise funds (milo tins!), programming, logistics, etc. I don’t doubt that band members today put in any less work though. In short, it was an psychologically exhausting but emotionally exhilarating experience for any CHS band member.

In that AEOM, one of the highlights was this brass ensemble we did – an item after intermission – probably our first ensemble performance as everyone in it was in lower secondary (did I get this right?)

AEOM 94

Performance back in Chen Moh

As the video recording that was done during that time was in VHS format, most of the copies have rotted. I would beg that someone who still have a good copy of this to convert it and post this online for it to last for eternity.

Hand itchy a few days back, so I tried to put it down again, reduced to a brass quintet (instead of the original octet++ as per the photo). Nothing close to the live sound (esp. with drums!), but should be a good enough recollection, unless you have also heard a much better played version by Canadian Brass.

Now, where did I put that scarf…
