Facebook Manners – Here’s 5 more

Wonderful production by Your Tango. Also read TIME Magazine’s article about the video.

Since YourTango has 5, TIME has 10, maybe I’ll add 5 more etiquette for consideration:

  1. Tag people in (good) photos – it shows courtesy, acknowledges that you still remember / respect the person
  2. Introduce yourself when adding friends – especially if you’re adding people you haven’t met in a while. How am I supposed to know who you are if the last I saw you was when you were as tall as your legs?
  3. Poke back – contrary to the typical, probably painful “poke” you receive in life, facebook plain vanilla pokes are the representation of touch (which doesn’t exist in the Internet medium yet) and is typically well mannered. Think of it like shaking hands if you will, or tickling someone.
  4. Like people’s (good) status message – it doesn’t take a lot to like something, but liking (a feature allegedly adopted from its success in FriendFeed) gives the author more incentive to microblog and microblog well.
  5. Don’t laugh at people without facebook – this is a serious crime really, those “Har you haven’t got facebook yet!” remarks. It’s entire one’s own choice whether they want to join this walled garden, or another. As a collolary, people do abandon facebook, don’t criticize them too, we all have lives to live.
