Anwar Ibrahim Online

If you bothered, you would have known that Anwar does keep a blog. As he has recently resurfaced on the news as part of the elections, it’s timely to revisit some of his ideas to see if there’s any new stuff in the soup.
Take this for example: Malaysia Economic Agenda. Download the PDF and read it in its entirety. Here, Anwar repeats the follow points:

  1. NEPotism
  2. Rising GDP/capita gap compared to SG, Taiwan, Korea
  3. Unequal distribution of wealth amongst the bumiputras
  4. Low GINI coefficient
  5. Poverty + Rural/urban divide
  6. No transparent tendering system
  7. Perception of corruption ingrained
  8. Self-ostracism (by currency controls)
  9. FDI languished, not easy to do business
  10. Mega project failures, quoting PERWAJA, PROTON, and MSC
  11. Petronas hijacked for bailing
  12. Poorly privatized companies at the cost to the citizens, including power producers, PLUS, and healthcare
  13. Education – university rankings down

His solution?

  1. Rewrite affirmative action (yey)
  2. Remove economic protectionism
  3. Move past the race based rhetoric
  4. Revamp wealth allocation schemes
  5. Elect an efficient, non-partisan government
  6. Set KPIs / create competition after privatization

Reading too much French literature, Anwar concluded that our fore-fathers fought for “liberty, equality and fraternity”. Heh. 😉

Do you know Anwar Twitters? Also Flickrs?
