It’s CFA Again! Round 2

Last week, when I received a heavy box at office, my heart kinda stopped. I expected the CFA text books to be thick (I didn’t have them for my last exam) but not THIS thick… It measures 14 cm thick if you press them down hard. I appeased myself by imagining the bulk of the material to be redundant (after all, prep books were found to be thinner..) but after scanning through some of it and measuring my typical reading speed, I think I’m really really screwed this time.

With 631+325+289+576+486+569 = 2876 pages in total, and a reading speed of 95 pages over 12 days = 8 pages a day, I would need 359 days i.e. 1 entire year just to finish reading the textbooks, but the exam is on June 6, meaning if I double my speed of reading and turbo charge my comprehension capabilities, I might be able to make time for some mock test…

So now it really comes down to this: I have to decide what to drop. Something must go, and it’s not the exam. Under total free choice that would be the main job 🙂 but it’s out of the question at least until next November. A study leave entitlement is only 5 days, sufficient only to calm the nerve. Pass all incoming side jobs to others has already been done when possible, so what’s left is the fulfillment of the existing ones, which can’t be enumerated with one hand.

I realized after staring at my analytics report recently that I really haven’t been really blogging (so nobody come and read). I might turn this situation around and perhaps blog what I study, but it can be a bit time consuming and irrelevant, since the creation of written notes is more important. I’ve also lined up so many projects (or rather, postponed so many projects due to the earlier commitment to complete philwinds pops concert) that now every Friday when the hell at work is over, I’ll stare blank at the ever growing todo list and sulk.

Of course, the most common comment is that I’m trying to do too much and I need to prioritize. Unfortunately these people also don’t really prioritize themselves, and most importantly they have no suggestion on how to let go projects as well, since at the end of the day, delivering the promise is the most important of all.

Well, we shall see – time to find a study partner to push one another!
