NCS finally bought SCS

Wah so big news no one tell me before…

Official Media Release (SCS), news on SingTel’s website (farny – NCS website still don’t have anything as of 11am, not excited is it?)

The curse of doing a bit too well? Circumstances of Singtel’s overall business in S’pore? The end of the head to head fight in every other tender? No idea. At least it’s not some merger thing still, just holding stake. Would there be more streamlining of business? Is NCS trying to use SCS as a local shop while it continues its aggressive overseas maneuvers? Is Green Dot Capital trying to cash in for some bigger thing? Will there be a SNCS (Singapore National Computer Systems!!!) like Singapore National Youth Orchestra and/or Singapore National Employers Federation and/or Singapore National Eye Center?

  1. hmm… maybe both will still operate individually. still fight with each other over tenders etc. more choices to provide but end day, left pocket or right pocket gets it.

this is the same for ST. they got so many units going for same project tender. end of the day, left pocket or right pocket. haha

  2. This acquisition certainly doesn’t sound very interesting, but SingTel isn’t a 5-year old in this global corporate jungle. I’m sure there’s some plans afoot to transform this combined entity into a player capable of flying the Singapore flag high beyond our shores, and I bet Temasek is behind all this.

The only question I have was, what took them so long to do it?!?!?!?! Crap…they should have done it right after the previous CEO left.

  3. I think there must have been a view in the past that having smaller entities fight amongst each other will create better value for the government because of lowering prices. Maybe the new view is that these companies are all too small to fight in a global world.

But that’s of course taking the simplistic view that these guys actually think about these things 😀 There’s the pessimist view that it’s SOE that triggered consolidation (when demand side consolidate, supply side will also consolidate… right?)

2 years ago before Tong Hai came there were rumours about merging remember?

Anyway why you complaining – you sold your shares before the news is it… 😛
