La Traviata (The Bitch) – Singlish Version

So hor, you know that one of the world’s greatest love story is coming to town? La Traviata (those people who spell correctly one) or simply Tavata (local version, used by musicians e.g. “tonight got tavata plactiss or not”) means “The Women Who Strayed”, aiya, that simply means “Bitch” la!! Whoa, who doesn’t want to attend a show with that kind of title – let’s go watch “The Bitch”!

What is it about? Love and betrayal story la. LT is one of the greatest opera by this zhai zhai dude in Italy called Verdi (or say it in local ‘r’-less accent again: Vedee!) who wrote many famous opera one. All these soap drama you see today, a lot copy his idea nia.

So here goes the story: Paris, 18 century. Violet Flower is a whore. Actually, an atas (high class) one coz last time got some whore only for the rich rich type. So this high class society leh, very atas one, act very fake, always like to throw party, play play only. Violet just recovered from illness, so she throw party at her place. There, she met Pasta Alfredo, an oo-liu-kia (rich brat) who have secretly fell in love with her. Actually hor, atas or no atas, loving a whore is a disgrace leh. Even Violet felt weird coz she don’t think guy would seriously fall in love with whore one lor. But Alfredo maybe special, so she think think very hard, ditch her current bf (some Bacon dude) and decided to see Alfredo.

Okay, next scene. Opera like that one, one moment haven’t bf/gf, next moment living happily together liao. Now Violet live together with Alfredo in a nice landed property with own backyard (that means stop being whore already la). But actually quite cham one la. Alfredo’s family all disown him, like whalao got so much money but go and marry a bitch! And Violet side got this maid who has been selling away Violet’s jewelry and barang-barang (stuff) to maintain their standard of living. One day, Alfredo found out he actually xiao bai lian (小白脸, means guys depending on girl to live) from the maid, damn the angry and went off to fix things.

Enter Pasta Alfredo’s father, Giordano. Giordano demand that Violet break off her relationship with Alfredo! He beg to her, saying that since his son got close to a whore, even his sister’s wedding nobody come la, everybody look down on the family la etc. like want to cry already. Violet sad, and felt that she was to be blamed, so decided to accept the advice, break up with Alfredo, because he felt Alfredo deserve better. Wah, even whore also got such heart, give up loved ones for the sake of the loved one.

Next! Party again (someone else one). Violet bring her last bf, Bacon. Alfredo made a scene at the party, first winning money from Bacon at gambling, then make a HUGE fuss by asking Violet to say that she love Bacon. Fuiyo! Violet say leh. She shout loud loud that she love Bacon, but only because she had to do it as a promise to Giordano to break up with Alfredo. Nobody understands the significance of this except Giordano. Alfredo got so mad, took the money that he earned and throw it at her, and scolded, “You bitch! Here is my payment for your services all these months!”

Like that how can, she still love him, but he has deceived. Only like that will Alfredo 死心 (heart will die) and move on. But then hor, there’s another thing about people in the 18th century. That time a lot of people die of TB (like lung infection) coz they don’t know how to treat mah. Apparently, if you’re in love, you can live on much longer, but once you’re heart broken, the sickness will get worse and you’ll die. This is the case of Violet. Actually she got TB. Long time already. But coz she got the love of Alfredo that she lived happily and sustained. Now, having convince Alfredo that she didn’t love him anymore, she fell sick again and got worse.

So when she’s about to game over already, only then did Giordano wrote to his son Alfredo to tell him the true story, maybe to say sorry or something. Alfredo rushed to the scene. What happened? Will she be revived? What will happen to Alfredo and Violet?
