Long Way Home (Part 2)

Remember my previous post about Tzuo Hann’s trip home? Now that I’ve found his charity site too, maybe it’s time to share:

The charity is to benefit 3 main org, namely: MAA-Medicare Kidney Foundation, Malaysia Cancer Society, and his high school St George Institution. Target sum: RM1,500,000, current donations RM 71,000++ (as of writing) so we’re still a long way home!!

As of now, he’s going across China. Some pictures I found entertaining:

I also suggest that you read the more serious part of the matter, which is found here on this page where TH writes a lot of his thoughts. It makes me mad that he’s apologizing for saying the things he say. Although I half expect people to pour in on things like language and racial stuff (this is Malaysia after all), I didn’t expect it to go to the extend of being able to impact the psychological state of a person who has overcame his fear to ride a bicycle half way across the globe.

Think. You manage to allay feelings that you’ll just fall flat riding, freezing to death, bike to exhaustion, meeting bad people, and all these unknowns, and yet you are emotionally disturbed by the unwillingness to people to help due to petty issues. How profound must that issue be!

When we take an action, perhaps put yourself in the other person’s shoes. If you don’t want to part with your RM50, fine, don’t make other people’s lives difficult. Yes there’s world peace but that doesn’t mean you can go around giving excuses that you didn’t mean it so as to make others appreciate in awe how petty you can get. If you don’t see Chinese language in the form, help create one, and so on and so forth.

Or maybe for me, being away from Malaysia for almost 10 year now (come 8 Jan), psychologically, I’m also a Long Way Home…

  1. hey jinjoo,
thanks for supporting and telling people about the effort so far.

im a little dissapointed yes, at how the donations are dripping in, but given the response at the 1Utama event, i am starting to feel that the blame should not go to the malaysian public but more to how the whole effort was executed.

this is not to say it was a failure, the charity even as it is has already brought it a lot more than similar efforts, even in mat saleh country. but a goal is a goal…. i have to do some more…

im riding again, almost for sure. will set things together, then ride

  2. yo yo – sorry I was too busy entertaining my other guest at your booth, didn’t even sit down and chat with you properly 🙂 maybe someday i’ll be able to drop a few more things off my shoulder and go riding too, or with you!

there’s always a first time, and there’s always a better next time. all the best ya!
