Accelerate at Techventure 2011

It’s the time of the year to throw party again.

Accelerate@TECHVENTURE logoThis year, instead of doing our own show, we’re gate crashing the government show.

TECHVENTURE 2011 will be held on Oct 13 and 14. Depends on what attracts you, this might be a worthwhile networking opportunity, whether you’re from the western world trying to get started leaving your footprints in Asia, or you’re young company looking for international exposure, or you just want to hang out with a star-studded lineup of VCs.

Problem for not running our own show? We can’t sell you tickets – you’ll need to get them from Asiasons WFG, the organizer. Tickets are, imho, steep, ranging from $1,300 to $1,900 – not for the average person. Heavily subsidized booth spaces at $1,500 is all but gone in a snap. There might be some full price booth left, good luck negotiating with the organizer.

So instead of trying to change ticket pricing, we decided to make second day “free”. But only for invitees. That means you have to make really good friends with one of my bosses in order to get a free ticket into day 2, also known as Accelerate@TECHVENTURE. There’s only 300 spaces, like, really, the room isn’t that big, late comers might have to stand.

But there are a few other ways to get in, again for free. I suggest you try one of these, in the following order:

1. Nominate yourself for Asia Top 50 Apps

This year, all Asia’s top 50 apps winners will be eligible for free entrance to Accelerate@TECHVENTURE. Details of the competition can be found on the Asia Top 50 App’s new home: asiatop50apps.com. Nomination starts NOW!

This is good for you if you know you and your product have a large following online and you can garner enough votes to get you in. Chances: 1000 choose 50.

2. Apply to pitch to SingTel Innov8

If you’re looking for investment from SingTel Innov8, you might be interested to pitch to them directly. See accelerate.six.sg for details on this pitching opportunity. Again, it comes with tickets to the show.

This is good for you if you have built something really cool and you haven’t really launched it yet or just recently launched. Hint: don’t come with just a business plan. Chances: 100 choose 4.

3. Trade with someone

There’s a bunch who received ticket invitation but didn’t want it – you can try to snatch it from them. To switch they need to agree, and they need to notify the person who is account managing them (i.e. reserved them a space in the first place) to make the switch. Simply registering online doesn’t work.

This is good for you if you know people in town, especially tech company bosses. Chances: 300 choose 3.

4. Stand at the door and meet people outside the show

Enuff said. Chances: 1 (MBS is public…)

Hope that clarifies most people’s questions about TECHVENTURE this year.
