Suntec Shuttle Buses Relocated!?

When I got on the shuttle bus today from City Hall MRT to go to Suntec for work, I was surprised by the relentless announcement made by the kind bus uncle, which is apparently triggered by some recent decision by the Traffic Police. Come Jan 2, the shuttle bus which used to stop along Exit B on North Bridge Road, will now have to evacuate, along with the rest of the shuttle buses. He mentioned the new boarding place as the bus stop next to Adelphi.

This is a BIG problem when it rains! There’s no covered walk way from City Hall MRT to Adelphi. People with heavy luggage will have to carry it over the stretch of the church at least. The extra time spent walking waste traveling time even more, defeating the purpose of a shuttle bus for some (which can walk quickly through city link and beat the bus during congested traffic conditions) and so on and so forth.

I’m sure the police have their reasons as well. 😀

The hilarious part is still our lovely uncle who’s always at boarding area to organize the queue, greet the passengers, and instruct the driver as to which door of the bus to open/close. He went on whining about how it must be a new year resolution for the police la, some new guy must have just taken office and want to throw his weight around, and all his 4 years of effort of making the Suntec shuttle bus occupy the prime location (right outside the MRT station) and continue to displace the other shuttle buses (which he hailed as his personal success) being destroyed overnight by the government. He promise to write in if he sees any shuttle bus coming and occupying their prime spot to the police.

I bet the police must be like, “Hey – free traffic policing!”

Bleargh – I want to drive to work!

  1. Huh? Walk to Adelphi? Then might as well walk along city link to Suntec instead.

I do agree with the uncle. Must be some new guy throwing their weights around. That shuttle bus location has been in use for many years and there has been no problem or whatsoever.

  2. No, usually no police action is needed for this kind of thing. After all, the police are also pro-business. Evidently, someone complained.

So, police have no choice because someone put it in black and white.

  3. I wonder if anon actually has anything to back that “pro-business” accusation. I also wondered when he said “evidently”, what kind of evidence is he/she talking about?

It’s not an official bus-stop anyway. If other vehicles cannot stop along the road there, I think it’s only reasonable no special allowances are made for certain shopping malls.

But I have to agree it’s going to be quite a hassle walking all the way to Adelphi. It’s not exactly a short distance for a shopper with heavy loads. Hopefully they will look into the possibility of building a sheltered walkway to Adelphi.
