Tribute to Randy Pausch

If you haven’t heard of this, it’s timely you visit Randy’s homepage now to get a good idea. Here’s his last lecture video: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

In summary, Randy is dying of pancreatic cancer. After months of treatment, the cancer returned, so it is practically death sentence.

The lecture you hear above (1 hour 25 minutes) will be his last in CMU, my alma mater. Although I’m neither an expert in religious stuff nor chemotherapy, I sincerely hope some biological miracle can happen – and that god will let him see through a few more years of his children growing up and his lovely wife. At the very least – even if you have no time / bandwidth to download a few hundred MB of video, do read through a few of the shorter articles by major news sources, such as The Wall StreetJournal.

My own lessons learned from the lecture:

  • Brick Walls are extremely important because they keep people who don’t want certain things enough out.
  • When you don’t hear criticism, that’s when you know people have given up on you. Critics loves you.
  • There are many ways to get into college 😉 Just like there’s many ways to get a job.

All the best Randy!

  1. Some lessons from Randy Pausch’s last lecture that especially moved me:

    1. Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.
    2. Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
    3. Never lose the child-like wonder.
    4. If we do something which is pioneering, we will get arrows in the back. But at the end of the day, a whole lot of people will have a whole lot of fun.
    5. Be good at something; it makes you valuable.
    6. If you live your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, and the dreams will come to you.
