In case you didn’t “get” the story line, here’s quick plot:<\/p>\n
Scene 1: In a Russian Mardi Gras, a Charlatan charms a captive audience by making puppet figures Petrushka, a Ballerina and a Moor perform a vigorous dance.<\/p>\n
Scene 2: Petrushka leads a dismal “life” behind the show curtains, bitter towards the Charlatan for his imprisonment but love for the beautiful Ballerina. <\/p>\n
Scene 3: The Ballerina is attracted to the Moor’s handsome appearance, but her dance with the Moor was interrupted by Petrushka, who broke free from his cell, but soon flee as he was too weak.<\/p>\n
Scene 4: Back in the carnival, Petrushka runs pursuit by the Moor and the terrified Ballerina. Moor catches up with Petrushka and slays him with a single stroke of his blade. But when the police question the Charlatan, he held the “corpse” above his head and shaking it to remind everyone that Petrushka is but a puppet.<\/p>\n
End: Petrushka’s ghost appears, the terrified Charlatan runs away, leaving the audience to wonder who is “real” and who is not.<\/p>\n
